67% students leave study after passing matriculation exam in spring 2024

A total of 67 per cent of students remained outside of education after passing the matriculation examination in spring 2024, according to Statistics Finland.

According to the Statistics, there were 26,000 new completers of the matriculation examination in the spring term 2024.

Seventy-seven per cent of the qualified students applied for further studies immediately, but only every third continued studies immediately.

Twenty-one per cent of the students, who qualified in the matriculation examination continued in university education, 11 per cent at universities of applied sciences (Polytechnic Institutes) and one per cent in vocational education and training.

Immediate entrance to education by qualified students of the matriculation examination in spring 2024 decreased by nearly one percentage point compared to the year before.

Sixty-seven per cent of the students, who qualified in the matriculation examination in spring did not have a place for further studies.

Seventy-nine per cent of students, who qualified in the matriculation examination in 2021 were studying three years after graduation.

Twenty-two per cent of attainers of initial vocational qualifications in 2021 were studying three years after graduation.
