Finnair flights to run usually as union withdraws strikes

The Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) on Sunday has withdrawn its pre-announced strikes slated for July 16, 18, 21, 23, and 25 as a result all the scheduled flights of national flag carrier Finnair will be operated normally on the stipulated days, said Finnair and IAU.

The union decided to withdraw the strike as the ongoing labour dispute in the aviation sector was ended following a deal with the Service Sector Employers- Palta.

The union had been observing a series of strikes during the recent months demanding renewal of the collective agreement for aviation services.

Finnair had to cancel about 1280 flights due to 12 strikes enforced by the union since May 2, 2025.

The Palta and IAU on Sunday approved the settlement proposal presented late Saturday night by the National Conciliator. The proposal formed the basis for a new collective agreement for aviation services.

The new agreement will be in effect for approximately 1.5 years, ending on January 15, 2027.

The proposed wage solution aligns with the general labour market framework.

“Sincere thanks to our customers for their patience during this prolonged labour dispute,” said Jaakko Schildt, Chief Operating Officer of Finnair, adding that the negotiation result will cover Finnair’s Technical Services, Kitchen, airport customer service, and many other companies operating in the airport area.

The last strike was observed on July 7, which forced Finnair to cancel about 100 flights.
