Finnair cancels 40 flights due to seat cleaning issue
National flag carrier Finnair on Monday cancelled 20 flights and announced to cancel 20 more flights on Tuesday due to a problem created over cleaning of seat covers of some of its aircraft, said the airline in a bulletin late Monday night.
The airline had to suspend operation of eight aircraft of Airbus A321 due to the seat cleaning problem resulting the cancellation of the flights.
“We have temporarily suspended operations of part of our A320 fleet (8 A321 aircraft). The reason for the suspension is information received from the seat manufacturer indicating that the impact of the seat cover cleaning method (water washing) on fire protection has not been properly verified,” said Finnair in the bulletin.
This situation affected the operation of about 20 flights per day, from Monday evening and continuing into Tuesday.
The disruption created sufferings for about 5000 passengers at the beginning of the Autumn holiday week at Finnish educational institutes.
The airline, however, said that it was trying to find replacement flights for the passengers within quickest possible time.
The airline authority apologised to the passengers for the unwanted flight disruption.
Passengers will receive information from Finnair in case their flight is cancelled and a new routing based on the contact details in their booking.
