Foreign tourist inflow rises, resident tourist drops in August
The number of overnight stays by resident tourists went down by three per cent in August this year in Finland compared to the stipulated month of the previous year, according to Statistics Finland.
Meanwhile, the number of nights spent by non-resident tourists at accommodation establishments increased by 13 per cent in August from the year before.
According to the preliminary data, 2.36 million overnight stays were recorded at accommodation establishments in August 2025.
The number of nights spent by resident tourists was 1.60 million and that of nights spent by non-resident tourists 0.76 million.
The total number of overnight stays was almost on level with the year before.
The highest numbers of foreign visitors came from Germany, Sweden and the United States.
The occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 61 per cent, which is two percentage points higher than in August 2024.
The average price of a hotel room was EUR 121, which is EUR five more than in the previous year.
The average price of a hotel room was highest in Pirkanmaa, EUR 137.
