Glitches in older trams disrupts service in Helsinki

Tram service has been disrupting in Helsinki as older trams are experiencing problems and cannot be put into service following increase of traction voltage on early Sunday night, said the Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (Helsingin seudun liikenne – HSL).

The HSL warned of possible irregularities and cancellations on city centre routes also on Monday.

Possible disruptions will affect lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 6B, 6T, 7B, 7T, 8, 9B, 9T, 10 and 13.

Earlier at the night between Saturday and Sunday, Kaupunkiliikenne Oy increased the traction voltage of the city centre tram network.

The voltage upgrade was completed on schedule, and tram services started on Sunday morning at 7:00 and operated mainly normally.

But during the night it was discovered that some older trams are experiencing problems and cannot be put into service.

Most of the trams were repaired during Sunday.
