Seat cleaning issue forces Finnair to cancel flights also on Monday

The national flag carrier Finnair still has been suffering from the seat cover cleaning issue and failed to restore normalcy in its flight operation, although one of the eight aircraft resumed operation on Sunday, local media reported.

Finnair will cancel Stockholm- Bergen-Stockholm and Helsinki -London flights on Monday and London-Helsinki flight on Tuesday, reported national broadcaster Yle on Sunday, quoting the airline.

The airline had to suspend operation of eight aircraft of Airbus A321 due to the seat cleaning problem resulting the cancellation of the flights from October 13.

It cancelled 20 flights on October 13, 20 flights on October 14 and eights more flights on October 15.

The disruption due to seat cover cleaning issue disrupted flights of about 12,000 passengers.

“We have temporarily suspended operations of part of our A320 fleet (8 A321 aircraft). The reason for the suspension is information received from the seat manufacturer indicating that the impact of the seat cover cleaning method (water washing) on fire protection has not been properly verified,” said Finnair in the bulletin at the beginning of the problem.

“Due to the situation, we have cancelled several flights between 13 and 16 October 2025. Going forward, we will need to make some daily aircraft type changes to minimise the number of cancellations. These aircraft changes will likely lead to overbookings. Flight cancellations, delays or changes in the operating airline may also occur,” Finnair added updating the situation.
